
About the Pathway Program
In partnership with NYSERDA, Capital Region BOCES offers a TUITION-FREE workforce training opportunity for eligible adults aged 18 and above. This initiative aims to prepare participants with the essential skills needed to succeed in the ever-evolving industry. Students receive hands-on training through 300-500 hours of specialized instruction in offshore wind business and wind technology specific to their selected trade.
All trade courses will integrate industry-specific competencies tailored to the offshore wind and energy sectors. The curriculum will cover a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:
- Understanding the pathway to obtaining further offshore wind certifications, such as deep-sea welding, wind energy technology, and project management.
- Wind turbine data collection and analysis
- Knowledge related to renewable energy operations
Upon successful completion of this course, students will earn the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour Safety Course Certification.

Students can choose from three trade programs
ELECTRICAL
This course will give you 300 hours of hands-on experience. You will learn to repair, install, maintain, and troubleshoot residential and commercial electrical wiring systems, as well as switches and controls.
WELDING
Through this 500-hour course, you will learn the skills necessary to enter the workforce and the advanced skills sought by existing welders. The curriculum combines hands-on technical training, supporting classroom lessons in weld theory, and online practice modules.
BUILDING/ CONSTRUCTION
This 300-hour course prepares students to layout, fabricate, and install wooden, steel, and masonry structures using hand tools and power. They will learn common framing styles, construction materials, blueprint reading, concrete placing, and siding.
Recruitment Goals
Recruit ninety (90) individuals from disadvantaged communities and/or priority populations to improve their lives through employment in the offshore wind industry.
Contribute essential workforce members to support the thriving green economy sector.
Collaborate with community-based organizations across the Capital Region to identify eligible individuals for the program.
